Burnley see off Nottingham Forest

Burnley beat Nottingham Forest 3-1 in today's Championship clash at Turf Moor.

Burnley have beaten Nottingham Forest 3-1 in today's Championship clash at Turf Moor, thanks to a first-half blitz from the Clarets.

The home side threatened from the start, and within the first few minutes, Jamaal Lascelles was forced to clear a ball off the line after Scott Arfield's shot went under the body of Karl Darlow.

Just before the quarter-hour mark, Arfield broke the deadlock for the home side. He collected a pass from David Jones, beat his marker and rifled a shot underneath Darlow. This time, there was no reprieve for the Reds.

The Clarets doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Kieran Trippier displayed some strong skills on the wing before lashing in a pinpoint cross into the box, which Sam Vokes duly converted with a close-range header.

With 10 minutes to go before the break, Vokes notched another goal to put his side 3-0 up, after a Michael Duff strike was ruled out for offside just a few minutes beforehand.

In the second half, beleaguered Forest attempted to find a way back into the game, with Lascelles threatening the Burnley goal on several occasions.

Forest eventually pulled a goal back when Simon Cox was brought down in the Clarets box midway through the second half. The referee gave the Reds a penalty, which was converted on the rebound by Djamel Abdoun.

Towards the end of the game, Jamie Paterson came very close to scoring a second for Forest, but his shot from inside the area was just wide.
