Braga knocked out of the Champions League

Braga are out of the Champions League as they go down 3-1 to Cluj away from home on Tuesday.

Braga's chances of progressing to the Champions League last 16 have disappeared with a 3-1 away defeat to Cluj in Group H.

The hosts pulled ahead after just seven minutes through Rui Pedro, who was expertly put through by Rafael Bastos for a neat finish.

It did not take long for Cluj to double their advantage.

Bastos released a clipped ball over the top for Modou Sougou on the right and the winger set up Pedro for his second goal of the evening.

Braga halved the deficit immediately when Ruben Micael's attempted through ball fell kindly for Alan, who shot home from close range.

However, Cluj did not lose their control of the game and restored their two-goal cushion in the 33rd minute.

Sougou did most of the hard work for the goal as he galloped down the right flank and slipped a pass to Pedro, who smashed home to complete his hat-trick.

Things went from bad to worse for Braga in the first-half injury time when Douglao was dismissed for a challenge on Camora.

Camora himself could have scored on the hour mark when a mistake from Custodio on the halfway line saw him get a clear run on goal, but he failed to take a proper shot under pressure.

Then midway through the second half Alan took a shot, but failed to keep his attempt on the Cluj goal, before Braga had a goal disallowed for offside.

Camora was unlucky not to score in the final 10 minutes as he was twice denied by the frame of the Braga goal.
