Aberdeen close gap with victory at Dundee

Aberdeen close the gap on Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic after they beat Dundee 2-0 at Dens Park.

Aberdeen have secured their third win in nine games by beating Dundee 2-0 at Dens Park in the Scottish Premiership.

The away side went in front as Dundee failed to clear a corner and the ball eventually fell to Niall McGinn in the box for the Northern Ireland international to stroke home from 12 yards out.

Dundee had a penalty claim seven minutes later as Nicky Low was fouled on the line of the penalty area, but the referee decided that it was a free kick on the edge and the chance was wasted.

The Dons made it two as the ball was worked in wide to Jonny Hayes, who crossed it low into the back post for Adam Rooney to tap into an open goal

In the second half, Greg Stewart found some space at the edge of the box as the home side looked for a route back into the game, but the forward put his strike straight at Danny Ward.

Paul McGowan had the chance at a late consolation for Dundee but his strike could not get past Ward in the Aberdeen goal.

With a number of games postponed in Scotland, the win moves Aberdeen to within four points of table-toppers Celtic, who had their game called off earlier today.

The result leaves hosts Dundee in seventh in the Premiership table, and they remain a point outside of the top six.
