How Germany could line up against Belarus

Sports Mole looks at how Germany could line up for Saturday's Euro 2020 qualifying clash with Belarus.

Germany will want to pick up maximum points from their next two games against Belarus and Northern Ireland to keep the pressure on group leaders the Netherlands for top spot in Euro 2020 qualifying Group C.

Joachim Low's side are second on head-to-head and while qualification remains very much within their grasp, they will need the Oranje to slip up if they are to leapfrog them at the summit of the group.

Germany will expect to beat a Belarus team with just one win from six qualifying games, and if Northern Ireland are out of contention following their game against Ronald Koeman's side they could prove a significantly less motivated opponent than if they were fighting for a top-two spot.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Germany could line up for Saturday's showdown.

Possible GER XI vs. BELA

Out: Kai Havertz (thigh), Marco Reus (ankle), Niklas Sule (knee), Julian Draxler (fitness), Antoino Rudiger (groin), Thilo Kehrer (foot), Marco Halstenberg (thigh), Kevin Trapp (shoulder), Emre Can (suspension)
Doubtful: Niklas Stark (nose)

Low will be forced into a number of changes to the side that beat Estonia 3-0 last time out despite going down to 10 men after 14 minutes, and he could restore a few big names to the starting lineup to get Germany across the line with minimum fuss.

Manuel Neuer is not one who will expect to lose his place, however, with the Bayern Munich shot-stopper backed heavily over Marc-Andre ter Stegen in recent months.

The back four, on the other hand, could be given a real shake-up, with Jonathan Tah and Matthias Ginter likely to replace the injured Sule and suspended Can at the heart of defence, while Nico Schulz could replace another injured defender in Halstenberg at left-back. Right-back Lukas Klostermann is the only member of the defence that started in Estonia who could retain his spot.

In midfield, Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Gundogan should continue and could be joined by Toni Kroos to make for a more conventional central trio with Reus sidelined by injury.

Julian Brandt is also likely to keep his places on the wing, but Timo Werner and Serge Gnabry could be brought in for Gian-Luca Waldschmidt and the injured Havertz.
