David Ferguson's late equaliser secures a draw for Blackpool

David Ferguson scores a 97th-minute equaliser to earn Blackpool a 4-4 draw with Nottingham Forest.

David Ferguson's 97th-minute strike has earned Blackpool a 4-4 draw with Nottingham Forest, in a breathtaking game.

After a quiet first half Blackpool found the breakthrough in the 45th minute, when Gary Madine collected the ball eight yards out and fired it into the bottom corner.

The visitors came out to attack in the second half, and they almost levelled through Chris Burke whose shot was blocked only a few yards from goal at the back post.

However, Blackpool doubled their lead through Andrea Orlandi, who drove the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box just minutes after he hit the bar with a header.

Forest replied instantly through substitute Dexter Blackstock, who reacted quickest to a Joe Lewis error to slip the ball in, and they equalised two minutes later when Gary Gardner slotted the ball home after a set piece fell to him six yards out.

Blackpool took a 3-2 lead minutes after, as substitute Steve Davies smashed the ball into the top corner from a few yards out.

However, just as it seemed that Blackpool had weathered the storm, Forest earned a penalty when Tom Aldred brought down Michael Antonio.

Aldred was shown a red card, before Henri Lansbury converted the spot kick to make it 3-3.

Forest thought that they won the match when Chris Burke slammed the ball into the top corner from the left-hand side of the box in injury time, but Ferguson scored just one minute later to secure a draw with a cool finish into the bottom corner.
