Half-Time Report: Scunthorpe United on course for fourth round

Scunthorpe are on course for the fourth round of the FA Cup, having taken a 2-0 lead into half time of their clash with Chesterfield this evening.

Scunthorpe United have put one foot in the fourth round of the FA Cup courtesy of a 2-0 half-time lead over Chesterfield at Glanford Park this evening.

The hosts were the first to threaten after just five minutes when Gary McSheffrey's ball found Neal Bishop in the middle, but the midfielder's glancing header was held by Tommy Lee.

Chesterfield's first chance of the match came in the 16th minute when Armand Gnanduillet battled to get a shot away from close range, but Scunthorpe just about did enough to scramble it behind for a corner.

The hosts broke the deadlock just two minutes later courtesy of a first professional goal for Chelsea loanee Alex Davey, who fired the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box after Chesterfield had failed to adequately clear a corner.

The visitors began to pile the pressure on towards the closing stages of the half and came close to grabbing an equaliser when Romuald Boco had two bites at the cherry, only to be denied on both occasions.

It was Scunthorpe who got the second goal, however, with Lyle Taylor capitalising on a defensive error to race through and slot the ball past Lee.

Boco threatened once again with a volley right at the end of the half, but he couldn't keep his effort down as the Iron's two-goal lead remained intact going into the break.
