Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin hails Mesut Ozil's contract extension at the Emirates as "exciting" and like "a new signing".

Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin has hailed Mesut Ozil's contract extension at the Emirates as "exciting" and like "a new signing".

The German, who had less than six months on his deal, penned a new contract with the Gunners until 2021 on deadline day.

The signing came alongside the acquisitions of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in Arsenal's major transfer activity in January, and Spanish defender Bellerin has said that Ozil's stay is just as important as a new player coming in.

"Everyone in the training ground, everyone in the team knew he was going to stay," the 22-year-old told the Evening Standard. "He is a guy that loves London, loves Arsenal and he always gets really angry when things don't go well so you know how much it means for him to win or lose for this club.

"It is as exciting as a new signing. To have a player with his qualities and all he brings to the team to sign for a few more years, it is really exciting for Arsenal and for the fans."

Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan, who both impressed in Arsenal's 5-1 win over Everton on Saturday, are expected to feature again when the Gunners play Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
