Genoa edge Chievo in five-goal thriller

Panagiotis Tachtsidis scores a stoppage-time winner as Genoa secure a 3-2 victory over Chievo in Serie A.

Genoa threw away the lead before scoring a stoppage-time winner as they claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over Chievo in their Serie A meeting this afternoon.

It took the visitors just a minute to open the scoring as Alberto Paloschi met Riccardo Meggiorini's low cross at the near post before turning the ball past Mattia Perin.

Genoa did not have to wait too long to equalise as in the 13th minute Leonardo Pavoletti bundled the ball in from close range, after Albano Bizzarri had spilled Diego Perotti's deflected cross.

Four minutes later the hosts completed the turnaround as Serge Gakpe curled a low strike from outside the box that took a wicked deflection and found the bottom corner with the keeper left stranded.

The Rossoblu continued to pose a threat and Pavoletti almost made it three when his header from inside the six-yard box was tipped away by the fingertips of Bizzarri.

However, within 10 minutes of the second half Genoa were reduced to 10 men after Blerim Dzemaili picked up two bookings in quick succession.

Chievo started to take control and Paloschi saw an effort cleared off the line, before Nicolas Burdisso headed over the bar from a corner.

Genoa's resolve was finally broken in the 77th minute as Sergio Pellissier flicked in Federico Mattiello's cross at the near post to level the scores.

The visitors looked the more likely to snatch a late winner and Perin had to be alert to deny further efforts from Bostjan Cesar and Pellissier.

Despite the incessant pressure from Chievo, it was Genoa who claimed the points in the third minute of stoppage time. Manchester City loanee Olivier Ntcham burst down the left before pulling the ball back to Panagiotis Tachtsidis to guide a low effort into the corner and spark wild celebrations at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
